Legends tell us of the Sun King, Uther Paendroeg, who ruled the Five Crowns' Alliance. Over one score centuries ago, the Sun King's Empire spanned across all of the lands south of the Vasmar, the great fresh-water sea.
The Alliance was the height of civilization and prosperity. Powerful wizards and holy priests worked with honorable knights to create a peaceful empire that stretched across the lands. It was said that a young virgin riding a white horse carrying a sack of gold could travel from one end of the Five Crowns' Alliance to the other without fear of molestation.
The Dark One, however, was jealous of the accomplishments of the Sun King. He gathered his forces of evil and attacked the Alliance with such ferocity as to lay the lands asunder. Even with the combined mights and magicks of the Five Crowns' Alliance, Uther Paendroeg's armies were pressed against the Vasmar. The Sun King himself was slain outside the beloved capitol city of Camelough. It is said that the Heavens wept with him as he watched the spires of the Imperial Court crumble during his dying moments.
The survivors of the Fall of Camelough gathered together and attacked the infernal palace of the Dark One. Combining their might for one final blow, they sealed the palace with ancient and eldritch magicks, trapping the Dark One within.
Legends also tell of a time when the bonds containing this menace will weaken, and new heroes will have to unravel the mysteries of ancient, long-forgotten prophecies to prevent the escape of the Dark One and the completion of his schemes of domination and ruination.
