The party survived the attack on Kalisz, Poland, and traveled overland (and, for a while, off-road), until they made inadvertent contact with the Markgraf of Silesia. After hearing his offer for employment, the party decided to travel instead to the fabled Free City of Krakow. The Polish refugee (Tanya) that they rescued introduced them to Henryk Hallecki, proprietor of the Na Zdrowie restaurant/bar. Henryk, born Henry Hallecki in Chicago, sympathized with the NATO refugees, and he offered them employment and temporary lodging until they figured out what they were going to do.

Old City Krakow:
Before the war, much of the old city was a pedestrian mall, and it was a popular tourist destination. While the most of the original city walls had been demolished in the 19th Century (the exception being the section around Florianska Gate), after the war had escalated and Krakow had declared its independence, work crews began rebuilding the city walls, using rubble from the surrounding suburbs of Krakow.
The war is not allowed into Krakow, and the city guard respond very heavy-handidly and indiscriminately to anyone trying to bring the war into the city. Even so, there is always talk of intrigues in dark alleyways...
Known Krakow Factions:
Key: Dark gray areas are occupied buildings. Solid light gray areas indicate unoccupied buildings. Mottled areas (such as under teh word "STRADOM" in the lower-right quadrant) indicate rubble. The areas immediately surrounding the city wall are gardens and parks. THere is a forested park south of Sw. Sebastiana in the lower right section of the map. This key is shown on the main city map, below.
