The Grey Skyes Campaign

A note on my ref'ing style in this campaign: I managed to make the players fairly neurotic in the first Book of the campaign by almost never having them roll dice -- they had to make rolls to get their vacc suits on when the meteoroid hit the Discovery, then they didn't need dice again until the natives attacked RoseWell. They never got to roll dice to understand the Grey language until after their three-month trip to Terpriwis -- the players themselves had to figure out what was being said.

• Travellers' News Service, with some pre-2298 entries and regular service starting in 2298.
• Background: An introductory letter, personae dramatis, and other goodies
• Book I: And Behold, a Whirlwind Was Coming Out of the North (completed 1998)
• Book II: By the Pricking of My Thumb (completed 1999)
• Book III: And I on the Opposite Shore Will Be
• Book IV: Whatever the Cost May Be
• Book V: Cry Havoc
• Book VI: Shall Not Perish
• Book VII: And There Was Given to Him a Great Sword

One other note about this campaign: I have finally admitted that it is over. I can not find a way to dig myself out of the hole the story is in. I had an epic set of adventures that would have jumped between different casts of characters, but I can't find a way to complete the campaign that I like. The big Grey invasion was and is a major stumbling block, and I finally decided that I was not going to bother rewriting it or even writing it up as a "cutscene". I've finally decided that instead of salvaging this campaign I will start a new sci-fi campaign. Here's an encapsulation of what would have happened during the upcoming books of the Grey Skyes Campaign:

• Book III: Using a new cast of characters, the party would get to experience the tedium of being an early-warning picket ship. At least, it would have been boring until the Evil Grey Fleet attacked. The party would have needed to gather as much intelligence about the fleet as possible, then transmit a warning, before getting fragged by the fleet.
• Book IV: Going back to the original cast and Zeta Tucanae, we witness the fall of ZT2 to the invading Evil Greys. The party would have become one of several guerilla units disrupting Evil Grey operations. The players also would have discovered that the Evil Greys have been "Borged" by their technology (but not to the deity-level powers of the Borg in Star Trek).
• Book V: Going to a different cast of characters, the party would have been tasked with capturing an Evil Grey ship of some sort so the humans could find a weakness to exploit.
• Book VI: Going to yet a different cast (which would have included Sergei from Book I), the party fights the final defense of Terra with a hastily-assembled experimental warship.
• Book VII: Using one or more of the previous casts, or a melange of them, the party liberates the Grey-occupied worlds, then possibly drives on towards the Evil Grey Homeworld(s).

Sometime in the Book III-Book IV timeframe, the new Terran Government would have changed to an empire, ruled by the current president of Terra. The original change in governments would have been for "the duration of the emergency", but, even after the defeat of the Grey fleet, the government would have remained Imperial.
